World Art Quiz

February 22nd 2008 01:38
Name the Artist.

Frivolous Friday’s are a great day to succumb to temptation. In the spirit of “fun”, I thought it would be educational and rewarding to post the first ever worldart.com quiz.

I’m not looking to bust any noggins here just provide a couple of minutes entertainment to those who answer the siren call of trivia. Keeping it simple, this is a “Name the artist” game where you submit the answers in the comments section below.

All the works are by famous Artists though in some cases it may not be there most recognized paintings selected. Instead the criteria for the images I chose comes under the heading “Subjective favourites”, some of which have already featured on the site.

Hope you enjoy the pictures and play along, good luck.(No cheating by putting the cursor on the image till you have answered)

Umm...the quiz is flawed. Hovering the mouse pointer over the pictures immediately shows the name of the picture & each picture's name begins with the name of the artist! The answer was given to me before I even thought about it.

DAMN!! Had forgotten Fuseli....and Geiger...should have realized, as loved the book on his Alien sketches...was thinking too far in the past...clever you!

The Madonna, Mona Lisa look alike, which is what I was thinking of...

Glad I fluked Titian...and in my defense, I first thought of Rubens, because of the women of course...but then abandoned that idea and couldn't decide...

Cheers....good fun too...and no, I didn;t cheat with the cursor!!

I got 8 out of 11...not too bad!!

Well done Mountain Fog!!!!

Thanks for playing along.

Funny how certain names slip the mind, happens to me frequently too. Especially when I obsess about a certain style and the creators meld into one.

Cool that you went with the Fuseli goth style, did you like the post I did on him earlier in the week?

Thanks for indulging me and commenting....

P.S If you enjoyed this quiz you may find entertainment value in the famous poets quiz I just posted over on poems.net.au

Hi Dexter,

no have not read the post on Fuseli, shall do so!

Probably not as good on poets...funnily enough, as I am one myself!!

I grew up in a family of artists, and went to art galleries and life classes with my mother instead of kindergarten, this is probably why I am reasonable at identifying an artist's work, well, the classic ones.

Anyway, I had a rather bohemian start to life, then was sent to Catholic private colleges....where 'god' was beaten into you!

It was an interesting childhood!

cheers
